Phoebe Philo returns to the fashion world.
In 2018 the very latest Céline collection was presented with Phoebe Philo as the creative leader. After almost ten years in the managerial role, she resigned from the French fashion house in 2017.
It was Saint Laurent designer Hedi Slimane who took over Philo’s position, who to the great despair of many came with one reshuffle after another.
In February of last year, rumors began to circulate that a Phoebe Philo comeback was imminent.
Several international fashion websites claimed that the British designer planned to launch her own brand - this time with sustainability at the forefront.
Now it turns out that the rumors are true.
Business of Fashion can today announce that Philo will launch her own clothing and accessories brand. The French luxury group LVMH is also taking part in the new brand, but it will certainly be with Philo at the helm.
The 48-year-old has been keeping the cards close to her chest for the past few years while working on building her own studio in London.
- Being there and creating again has been both exciting and incredibly rewarding. I'm really looking forward to connect with audiences and people everywhere again. Being independent, managing and experimenting on my own terms will be extremely important to me, says Philo in a statement shared with the industry website.
- I have had a very constructive and creative partnership with LVMH for many years. So, it is a natural progression for us to be together for this new project, she continues.
Chairman and CEO of LVMH Bernard Arnault also had some nice things to say about the British designer. He describes her as "one of the most talented designers of our time".
- I am very happy to collaborate with Phoebe on her entrepreneurial adventure and wish her great success, he says.
Philo won’t say what year the brand will launch, but can reveal that more details will come in January 2022.
