Komal Gajjar is an Indian fashion model who comes from a small town in India. She has also been featured on the cover of Elle magazine. Komal is the first Indian to have been selected by IMG Models which is the same talent agency to have chosen Bella Hadid and Gigi Haid.
Discovered on Instagram, Komal’s story is one that is memorable. Coming from a small town in India, it was a dream for the young Indian model to leave her home for greener pastures. Komal Gajjar brings a different look from the typical Indian faces.
With Indian features such as an even-toned complexion, tomboy cut-hair, bold brows and an androgynous look, IMG Models wanted someone different and so selected Komal. Although Komal never wanted to be a model, she decided to face her bias of finding it difficult to navigate the industry. She had been told that she had model looks in the past but never took it seriously.
When she first got a message from IMG, Komal could not believe if it were actually true. She feels proud to have been selected by the modeling agency. Living in London opened her eyes to the world as compared to India. Coming from a small town and then seeing how the world is different on the other side of the globe truly opened her eyes. It showed her that there is a lot that can be achieved if she got out of her comfort zone.
Due to London being very different from India with lovely people, the Tube, windy weather and the overall feel of the city, Komal quickly fell in love with her new home.
Having shot for i-D remains the most exciting shoot for Komal. Seeing colored faces and colorful clothes during the shoot made her extremely happy.
Komal dreams of being a Victoria’s Secret angel and of appearing on Vogue and Elle. When it comes to her diet, Komal prefers to eat homemade food. It is her diet secret. Having to fit in all types of clothes is something that she finds to be the hardest aspect of her job.
On the other hand, meeting creative people and traveling is something that Komal loves about being a model. Talking to random people about anything and everything is what Komal likes most. She likes learning about new things. Komal had never even dreamt being able to leave India, let alone live a life in the city of London. Coming from a small town where girls do not live without their parents, Komal had to adjust to her new way of life.
If Komal were to do something else besides modeling, then she would like to become a musician or artist. She dreams of coming in movies as movies tell stories. As a child, Komal wanted to be a film director. Miranda Kerr and Kate Moss are her two inspirations.
