Interview with Sara von Schenk
by METRO Model Agency Zurich
Zurich, Switzerland, November 2015
How were you discovered?
When I was 15, a model scout came up to me on the street and asked me to come by the agency. The next day I signed with my first agency and a few weeks later I went to New York.
What does your career do for you?
It gives me so a lot; life experience, traveling, meeting new people and I have grown so much thanks to modeling.
Tell us a bit about your most memorable shoot?
Hmm, one of the best ones was when I was shooting for Marie Claire in Marrakech, everything was just amazing. Everything from the team to the food.
How would you define your personal style?
I would say I’m a mix between casual, rock and roll and romantic. I love to do like a pair of black skinny jeans, a romantic top or just a simple T-shirt with a leather jacket and a classic Chanel bag. For an event or a party I always have my Louboutins, even the most simple H&M dress looks great with them!
And what are some of the heroes of your wardrobe?
So my plan when it comes to style is to spend money on bags, shoes and jackets and then mix it up with clothes from like Zara or Mango. I’m in love with my bags from Chanel, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton so I would say they are my heroes.
Could you give us your best beauty and exercise tip(s)?
When it comes to beauty I spend a lot of time to keep my skin in good condition since I do a lot of beauty shoots. I’m a certified skin therapist and I absolutely LOVE skincare! I use a lot from Dermalogica, and there “skin hydrating booster” might be the best product I have ever used! I try to workout at least 4 times a week, and my best tip would be to mix it up, I do Bikram yoga, Pilates, power walks and boxing!
And what is the one beauty product you can’t live without?
Since I’m a skin therapist I have had the opportunity to try many beauty products and are always looking for new favourites but 2 products I would never swap out is dermalogicas “skin hydrating booster” and there eye cream “multivitamin power firm”.
Could you give us a 1-day food diary? What do you eat on a regular day?
When I wake up I have a double espresso, coffee is something I really love. Then I have some breakfast; I usually have some Greek yoghurt and an apple. For lunch I have some protein like fish or chicken with different kinds of salads and some quinoa. During the day I drink coffee, detox tea, water and sometimes I get a diet coke. For dinner it can be anything, fish, organic meat or chicken. For me it’s important to mix it up, so it never gets boring to eat healthy. When I feel like something sweet I get some dark chocolate or some yoghurt with almonds and honey.
What are your favorite hang out spots in the city you live in (current location)?
My city is Stockholm and I love it, especially my part which is around Nytorget in Södermalm. I would also recommend Djurgården, prefect for a power walk!
What is your favorite city and where do you like to hang out there?
My favourite city would be New York, I just love it. The atmosphere there is something you will not find somewhere else in the world! One favorite thing to do is to run on the west side by the river.
Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?
First and most important you should go to a well-known agency, if they sign you, congrats you are in! Then in this business you have to have some confidence, believe in yourself and never get criticism about your body and your look get to you! It’s hard but I usually think of it as it is, they are talking about the “product” and not about you!
What do you think MODELLIST-ID can do for the model community?
I just signed up but so far I like it, so nice to share experience with each other.
Any nice plans for the future?
I want to keep modeling for as long as I can, but I also want to keep working with skincare and who knows one day I might open a spa or do my own skincare line.
Thank you for your time, Sara, and we hope to see you again soon in Zurich, Switzerland, at our modeling agency.
