When Sofia Mechetner became the new face of Dior in 2015, she did not even know what Dior was. However, Lady Luck had other plans in mind for the Israeli model. When she opened the show for Christian Dior at the age of 14, it was just chance.
Sofia Mechetner thought about taking up basketball or modeling when she was younger due to her height. Since she was not good at basketball, Sofia Mechetner decided to give modeling a chance.
The agency she came across in Tel Aviv took her in immediately. They were taken aback by her looks and sent her off to Paris for a meeting with a French agency. However, the agency declined to meet the model because of her young age and inexperience. But, as Sofia Mechetner was already in Paris, she decided to make the most of her time there.
This led to her visiting a Dior store for shipping where the label’s creative Raf Simons saw her. Sofia Mechetner was, in fact, lucky because she was with her agent Rotem Gur at that moment. Her agent loves Dior and that is why they got into the shop in the first place.
It was this fortuitous visit that led her to work for one of the most famous fashion brands in the world. Her agent introduced Sofia Mechetner to Raf Simons who was immediately smitten. The agency taught her how to walk and she practiced a lot before she opened the Dior runway show. Her walk was effortless and elegant for someone who only learned to walk a few weeks before the show.
Sofia Mechetner is very grateful for the opportunity she has given and has put in the hard work to make modeling her career. She loves her family and often shares her income with her mother in Israel.
