When this year's Golden Globes went off the rails on Monday night, it was fully digital due to the corona pandemic. Movie and TV stars from all over the world logged on to the event from the corner of the sofa for a party night with a virtual red carpet.

But it was glitter and glamor, nonetheless. Despite Vogue boasting about the award ceremony's outfits, others called for the black designers.

Among the stars who stole the show during this year's Golden Globes was Anya Taylor-Joy. She enchanted an entire world as chess genius Beth Harmon in the Netflix hit The Queen's Gambit, for which she also won an award.

Taylor-Joy also has a number of other impressive roles on the merit list, such as the lead role in the remake of Jane Austen’s Emma and The Witch. She was born in Miami to a British-Spanish mother and a Scottish-Argentine father, but grew up in London. Her breakthrough as an actress came in the role of Thomasin in the award-winning horror film The Witch.

Wearing a long, emerald-green glittering dress with matching cape with long hair and side partings, she was strikingly similar to star diva Veronica Lake.

The dress is said to have taken 300 hours to make, inspired by the AW18 collection by chief designer Maria Grazia Chiuri, according to Harper's Bazaar.

The actor topped it all off with jewelry from Tiffany's, which, after being acquired by the luxury group LVMH in January, will focus more on the younger target group. Maybe she will be the brand's new ambassador?

The green dress dream was not the only one the 24-year-old went for.

Throughout the evening, she changed into an ice blue, strapless dress, also signed Dior. It took 150 hours to make and is said to have been inspired by the original Miss Dior dresses from the 1940s and 50s.

Another dress that got a lot of attention during this year's Golden Globes was Nicole Kidman's signed Louis Vuitton.

The floor-length black dress with a high neck and pleated panels on the side was decorated with the brand's signature gold chains and took over 425 hours to make.

The dress also took 15 hours to draw due to the intricate link details that had to be perfected. Personal details were added to the look as well, such as Kidman's earrings from Cathy Waterman and an Omega watch that she has used several times before, writes Vogue.

The Undoing star was nominated for the award for best female actress in a miniseries for her role in the HBO drama. However, it was Anya Taylor-Joy who walked away with the award for her role as chess genius Beth Harmon in The Queen's Gambit. Kidman participated in the distribution at home from the sofa corner via Zoom together with her husband Keith Urban and their two daughters, Faith Margaret Kidman Urban and Sunday Rose Kidman Urban.

Regina King was nominated in the category of best director, along with three other female directors, which is historic for the Golden Globes.

For the occasion, she chose an asymmetrical, draped sequin dress from Louis Vuitton, which should have taken 350 hours to make with 20,000 silver sequins, 12,000 gold sequins and 8,000 black sequins, according to the fashion house. In addition, 1200 crystals were sewn on top of the sequins for that little extra.

Stylist duo Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald are said to have stated that the silhouette on the dress made her feel like "a flake of Champagne," according to People and something the actor also wrote in the caption.

Nicole Kidman was not the only one who chose to reuse designs she has gone with before. January Jones, known for her roles in the TV series Mad Men and the Christmas movie Love Actually, also went for reuse.

Jones wore a red dress signed to Versace during this year's Golden Globes - she also wore it to the same award ceremony ten years ago, according to Vogue.

"Ten years later and it still fits (in a way)," the star writes in the caption for the photo of herself wearing the dress on her Instagram profile.

Another who surprised was Kiernan Shipka, who played the daughter of January Jones in Mad Men. She was ten years old when she joined Jones at the awards ceremony in 2011, wearing a burgundy red velvet dress with a white collar - which was a trend during the day. The 20-year-old recreated the outfit on Instagram, to the great excitement of her former TV mum.

The Crown star Emma Corrin went for a sensational, tailored Miu Miu dress.

The actress, who won the award for best female actress in a TV drama for her role in The Crown, admits that she and her stylist actually sent some inspirational photos to the fashion house.

The result was a black, long dress with a slit and large white ruffles around the neck. She also wore jewelry from the luxury brand Cartier for which she is an ambassador.

"It probably sounds a little crazy, but we were inspired by Pierrot clowns with their giant ruffles and androgynous silhouettes," she tells Vogue.
